Ms. Hazel Moore, a Lincoln University graduate from the class of 1954, was a two-time Miss ROTC Queen and a Sweetheart of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Her college experiences at Lincoln laid the foundation for a lifetime of scholarship, leadership, and service.
Hazel exemplified the values of Lincoln University through her decades-long career as an educator, nurturing generations of students in East St. Louis, Illinois; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Fulton County, Georgia, while also serving as a strong advocate for her colleagues as a Teachers Union Representative with the National Education Association. Her influence extended beyond the classroom to the national stage as a representative of the Urban League, a member of the Black Educators Association, and through her civic leadership, she amplified the voices of African Americans and promoted opportunities for justice, equality, and progress.
Her spiritual foundation was deeply rooted in the church, where she faithfully served as a Delegate of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and as Superintendent of Sunday School. She later continued her faith in action through the Outreach Ministry and the Christian Rites of Passage, Inc. program at Cascade United Methodist Church, as well as through her involvement in the Loving Birthday Club at the Harriet G. Darnell Senior Facility.
Hazel was a founding member of the Lincoln University National Alumni Association, Incorporated (1978), and remained a lifelong financial member of the national alumni organization. She participated in numerous events hosted by the national body, including attending national conventions, and actively promoted the growth and development of her cherished alma mater.
Hazel was a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and a steadfast supporter of the Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Lincoln University, where her presence and commitment significantly enhanced our collective effort to preserve the legacy of our alma mater and support future generations.
She lived a life of grace, dignity, and unwavering commitment to her community, consistently offering her gifts of time, treasure, wisdom, and service to those around her, from civic boards and professional associations.
Ms. Hazel Moore Birth, a devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away quietly on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the age of 92. A Lincolnite will be remembered with deep respect and fondness.
